Questions from the community

In the wake of Season 5 delays and a long lead on the big news in June, this Dev Q&A was much needed. It was great to see the team out in the San Francisco sun, and the vibe of the video is more authentic and “human”. Still no real answers but some decent explanations why and a few hints for the future.

It was great to see some reflection and self-evaluation and to know that the devs can see areas for improvement. Fantastic to hear how important playing the game is to them.

PVP Plans

Despite explaining that the player base is predominantly PVE players – thanks for noticing us Katy! – it sounds like the Big Announcement might be a new PVP mode or zone. There were a number of comments to this effect –

3:52: “Yes, we’re working on something for PvP that’s pretty darn big part of the June announcement.”

4:51: “We’re doing a big investment in PvP. It is not an OPR map, but I think it’ll satiate the PvP players.”

Nope

They were pretty clear on what we’re not getting – no daggers, no town buff rework, and no wombat mount. I notice they didn’t rule out the hippo mount though!

Yep

There was a clear yes for Cross World Arenas in 2024 and definitely future expansions.

Fix for the Title bug

We will all be relieved to see a fix for the spamming title bug after cross-world instances, coming in Season 5. Yay!

Why can't they say anything?

A lot of people are still wondering why the devs can’t say anything about the plans for the future. Some speculate that it’s because they’re in talks with other parties and under non-disclosure.

I personally feel like it’s because knowing about big future changes impact the way the game is played right now, which can harm current gameplay and also change the way the new content will be experienced. Remember the leak about the gear score changes and how the economy was broken for months? We need to trust that silence is the best policy for now and appreciate that they are sticking to it, despite how difficult it seems.

Hope for the Future

The final question was mine, asking for some reassurance about the future of New World. This was prompted by reading online discussions dominated by claims of the game being in maintenance mode and closing soon. While I’m delighted they answered me, I felt a little sad hearing the reply. Their offer of commitment and hope sounded like the future of the game was subject to factors beyond their control. I hope we, as a player base, can match their enthusiasm.
