So you’ve decided to play New World and want to learn more about how to get started?
This guide intends to help answer your questions by finding out what you really want to know and directing you to that information. You’ll be presented with choices along the way, and can always come back to this start page if you get lost (link down there at the bottom).
Selecting a world
If you want to play with your friends, make sure you choose the same world. If you’re flying solo, you want to balance low ping and population. You can check population levels on the Server Status page but be aware it only counts Steam players.
You can transfer between worlds within a region by purchasing a token in the cash shop, but you cannot transfer between different regions, so be sure to make the right choice.
Making your first character
Before you can play, you’ll have to make a character. The creation process allows you to choose how your character looks and which weapons and trade skills you start with.
You’ll be introduced to the backstory of the game before you get to character creation, and if it’s your first time, it’s worth sitting back and enjoying the show.
