Season 10 is here!
Like kids hitting the streets in search of Halloween candy, New World players swarmed the servers this week, eager to indulge in all the new content. But amidst all the joy of discovery, there is an underlying current of overwhelm at so much change. While the devs work through their list of bug fixes, we seek to help to figure out what to do now and how to do it.

Full servers and queues
Due to the popularity of Nighthaven, many servers are full and players who have characters on them are experiencing queues. These servers are also locked for new character creation. If you are new and trying to play with a friend on one of these servers, you won’t be able to immediately. Your options are:
- Wait for numbers to settle down. This could mean not playing with your friend for a few weeks or more
- Make your character on an unlocked server and level up independently. The levelling up process is pretty solo anyway, and if you still want to, you can transfer to your friend’s server when it unlocks
- Convince your friend to make a new character with you or transfer to an unlocked server.
Free and paid transfers
If you are loading into a server that is full, you may have the option to transfer to a different server. This is free.
If you choose to transfer via the in-game shop purchase, there is a cost associated with that.
Be careful about clicking the Transfer button if you are not sure you want to transfer. If there is not more than one open server, you may not get the option to confirm your choice.
Rise of the Angry Earth is free
In a shock, last-minute announcement, AGS have removed the Rise of the Angry Earth DLC from the Steam store and unlocked all that content for everyone who ever purchased New World. If you bought the DLC in the last month, you’ll get a refund. So now no-one can ever complain about having to pay to ride a mount again!
So, how do I get into this?
If you’re a new or returning player, check out our guide on how to catch up. For max-level players, there is a lot of new content in the Nighthaven release, so here are some tips on what to do.
Collect Tarot Cards
Tarot cards are the new glyph and they are beautiful and fun. Some are in secret places and one is at the treasure map spot. Others are on the main story quest but require some jumping to get to them.
Newbworld Tarot Card Guide
Check out this handy video guide by NewbWorld to help you find all the tarot card locations. You can also use the map from the pre-release puzzle, as the marked locations have tarot cards there.
Catacombs
The Catacombs is a new, repeatable, random dungeon mode for three player groups. Queue up from the Activities menu to join in the fun.
The challenge is to beat as many bosses as you can within the 30 minute timer, and extract with your rewards. It takes a minute to extract, so make sure you allow for that before looking for more bosses. The bosses get harder as you go, and the loot gets better.
You can spend your loot – Sterling and Crowns – at Rikkar the Catacombs Explorer in Tullarest Abbey, on gear and Set caches, and skin sets, among other things.
Set your Gear Set attributes
Saving attributes with Gear sets is here, and it’s super easy to do! Something to remember is that as you level up and get more attribute points, you’ll need to update your gear sets accordingly.
Import your gear to add your attributue spec
To add the attribute points to an existing gear set, just equip that set. Then respec your points the way you want them – noting that we have less points than we used to. Finally, click the Import Items button on your gear set and that will save your attribute split. Being able to change gear sets and not worry about respeccing attributes is a huge QoL win.
Updated Build Sites
Sorry, this heading is a bit of a troll right now. I’m keeping my eye on build sites and will edit to link in as soon as they are updated for Season 10.
- nwchamp.com is updated for PVP builds
- NW-builds.com has some Catacombs builds up
- newworldbuilds.com has a selection of Season 10 builds up
All this new gear - help!
The changed gear system can be a bit of an overload, and if you’ve participated in any farms, you’ll have a lot of it. We’ll write a more in-depth gear guide as the season progresses, but here are the cliff notes to get you started.
You can use your old gear
The first thing to know is that while we all get used to the new system, it’s perfectly viable to just level up your old gear with Umbrals. If you’re worried about spending Umbrals due to the weekly cap, just take your old gear to 780, which is relatively cheap. You should prioritise weapons as that will make the most difference to your gear score and damage.
Fixed perks and charms
There are two types of perks now – fixed perks which are stuck on the gear, and charms, which go into sockets and can be swapped out. You would think that the flexibility of charms would make socketed gear the most desirable, however the fixed perk bucket contains some must-have perks. More about perk pools below.
Item type perk restrictions
This update has broadened which perks can go on which items. Charms can be slotted on any of the 10 items, meaning you could have a weapon skill charm on your amulet, or Keen on your gloves. Fixed perks can still only appear on specific item types.
Old perks and crafting
Right now, you can craft gear with three sockets and one selected perk from the old pool. The main problem with this is that old perks are stacking with their new versions on the same item.
This is not intended and is being worked on by the devs. You can expect a fix some time next week.
Perk buckets and RNG
The old system had perk buckets that meant only one perk of that type could appear on a piece of gear. This restriction has been removed in the new system, so we are seeing multiple Protections or Attunements on the same item. Some perks have a cap to their stacks
What Perks am I looking for?
Because the charm system is flexible, it doesn’t really matter which perk is on which item, except for weapon skill perks being stronger on weapons. The most important thing is having the right amount of each perk type to get your desired total perks. I’m not going to recommend which charms to put in the charm sockets because if you get it wrong you can just swap it out.
Gem sockets
In most cases, you’re going to want to salvage anything that doesn’t have a gem slot. Exceptions might be items with Infixes, or fully stacked fixed perks. But for simplicity’s sake, if it doesn’t have a gem slot, bin it.
Good perks for Armour
You want as many sockets as you can get on armour, preferably Offence and Defence type. There are also a few fixed perks that you might want for.
Charms:
- Gem Socket
- DPS – Offensive sockets
- Tanks and Healers – Defensive sockets
Fixed Perks:
- Lifestealer’s Draught on 1 piece only
- Vital Synergy on Chest
- Prolonged Favour
- Damage DPS: Sacrificial Empowerment stacked
- Conditioning – Tank or PVP only
Good perks for Weapons
Skill perks are stronger on weapons so you want as many skill sockets as there are useful ability perks for that weapon. There are also quite a few good fixed perks for weapons.
Charms:
- Gem Socket
- Skill perks
Fixed Perks:
- Healer: Savior II, Resurgence II (note: there is no Blessed in the new perk system, so healers may choose to upgrade their old Lifestaff until they get used to new perks)
- Tank – Sturdy II – this has been beefed up to 10%, Hated, Lifestealing. Shield – protection perks work with either weapon and can stack on one item.
- DPS: multiple Attunements stack. See the fixed perk list to find perks specific to your weapon and build.
Good perks for Jewelry
Jewelry has a lot of fixed perks, so will probably want an item with few sockets or artifacts and set bonus pieces in these slots.
Charms:
- Gem socket
Fixed perks:
- Amulet – Protection perks can stack, so you may want multiple.
- Ring – Damage perks (e.g. Thurst Damage II) can stack. More perks specific to builds here.
- Earring – Refreshment II, Refreshing Move II, Refreshing Toast II (also Beloved is back). Earring perks.
What are Charms?
Charms are replaceable perk items. You slot them like gems, in their appropriate sockets. There are three types of Charms and you can craft them, loot them, or buy them from the Trading Post.
Making Charms
You can make charms with Jewelcrafting at the Outfitting Station. There are two recipes for each charm – one that uses more resources with a 100 skill requirement, one that requires 205 skill and uses half the resources. Eleven new resources have been added and three are used in each charm recipe – Angry Heart, Molten Slag, Frost Essence, Dark Crystal, Blade Splinters, Severed Tusks, Leaded Chunk, Reinforcing Alloy, Feather Shard, Hardened Alluvium, and Whisp Shroom. These come from a full range of content including raids and trials, PVP track, chest runs, Invasion caches, and more.
Skill Charms
These are similar to the old weapon ability skill perks. Note that a number of skill perks have changed and it’s worth checking the perks for your weapons. Skill charm list.
Defense
These are perks that protect you, such as Enchanted Ward II or Elemental Aversion II. Defense charm list
Offense
These are perks that add to your damage, like Harnessing or Vicious, but also include debuff extension perks and Leeching. Offense charm list.
Set Bonuses
Eight new sets have been added with Season 10, which have special perks that activate when you have a certain number of pieces. Most sets give bonuses for 2 and 4 pieces, with the Enrage set giving bonuses at 1, 3, and 5, while Overcharged gives bonuses for 3 and 5 pieces.
Where do I get sets from?
Isle of Night 10-player Raid
Catacombs 3-player extraction dungeons
Infixes
Infixes are special new perks, like the unique artifact perks. They can appear as Set Infixes or Standalone Infixes.
Where to get Infix gear
While Set Infixes come with Set Gear, as above, you can get the standalone infixes on gear from the Hive of Gorgons or Isle of Night raids, or gathered from Elite Ancient Chests .
So, you’re going to want to run the following ECRs:
- Myrkgard, Mines
- Attalus Foundary, Imperial Palace
- Sirens
- Upper Sviken (!)
- Cutlass Keys
- Elysian Wilds – NOT Tribunal Highmount or Isle of Zurvan
- New Nighthaven locations
What happened to my Artifact?
Instead of choosing any perk for your final perk slot on Artifacts, they now have a socket. So some artifacts can no longer have Skill perks added and may instead have an Offense or Defense slot. Artifacts that naturally had any perks that are now charms, have had these converted into sockets, so you can replace them. Additionally, many old perks have been changed, or removed and replaced with new perks.
Artifact Upgrade
The upgrade to 725GS is gone, because you can do that with Umbrals now. However, you still need to complete your artifact quest by upgrading at the Gypsum Kiln to remove it from your Journal, as you have a limit of 10 Artifact quests.
Fool's Sight Potion
To see some of the secrets of Nighthaven, you’ll need a Fool’s Sight potion. You can craft this at the Arcane Repository from the following ingredients:
Note: searching “fool” in the crafting menu will not bring this up. Search for potions or scroll to the potions section.
Explore Nighthaven
My main advice for everyone playing this update is to enjoy and explore. Don’t rush to be the first or catch up to everyone else. We know that New World typically has a fairly long window between updates, so find the depth of this new content and enjoy it.
Also, please join Arcanist when it’s up and if you get the Mageguard’s Duty chestwear skin, Lish will buy it from you for a lot of gold!
