NaRok ‘n’ Roll Tanking

 NaRok ‘n’ Roll Tanking

First published in Season 4. Return to the Build Hub.

Narokstar's Rolly Polly Flail and Shield Tank

This is a classic defensive tank, with the addition of the flail which brings mobility and extra taunts. With all four taunts, it’s easy to keep control of the pack and maintain a sense of authority.

Build Summary

Weapons:

  • Sword & Shield
  • Flail & Shield

Best for:

  • PVE
  • Expeditions

Main Attributes:

  • Con
  • Strength

This includes things that prevent damage such as blocks, stuns, roots, staggers.

This includes things that strengthen the team and mitigate damage, such as healing, buffing and debuffing.

This is pretty self-explanatory and covers raw damage output, include damage over time.

Difficulty: Intermediate

Weapon Ability Trees

I use Shield Bash because it is a backup taunt, as well as stunning. I still use Reverse Stab for the Tactician CDR on my main taunt, Defender’s Resolve, with its 45-second cooldown. While 25% may not seem like much, it is when you have a loss of agro.

On the flail, Barrage is fecking awesome. I love the charge animation and the fact that it taunts along the way. I also take Warding Bludgeon for another taunt, and Trip for a bit of crowd control.

Attribute distribution

I eat a Banana Parfait when I want to maximise my stats. Sometimes I’ll swap some Con for Strength.

Important perks

Weapons

I only use shields with Sturdy on them and have a collection of Shield Wards for the different damage types, for example Flame Shield Ward. The weapon perk that I look for on shields is usually Diminishing Shield Bash, although Accelerated Resolve is good for the increased heals.

Refreshing Move is what I prefer on weapons, and rather than Hated I’ll choose damage-add perks like Keenly Jagged or Vicious.

Gems: I obviously use Carnelians on both weapons – no fancy elemental effects for us tanks.

Armor

You want protective perks since you’re the one getting hit. Enchanted Ward and Elemental Aversion are both good and while they can’t usually roll on the same item, the Frigid Dawn heavy set from mutated Glacial Tarn has them both but it is Magnify, which makes it difficult to split your stats if you get too many pieces.

Jewelry

I like Health and Divine on my Amulet, plus Protection for whatever we’re fighting.

Hearty is the main thing I need on my Ring, and Refreshing Toast on my Earring.

Build in action

My advice

Don’t die. Dying is bad for taunt retention the same way it is bad for damage output.
