Trials of Aeternum Launch Event

 Trials of Aeternum Launch Event

Three weeks of competition

With the date of the New World: Aeternum update coming ever closer, today AGS revealed a three-week platform-based event. Players will compete by completing a series of challenges, which are yet to be announced. If it’s anything like the Return to Aeternum event of 2022, we can expect large volume targets of in-game tasks.

Three Teams

So now we know where the new dyes come into it – these are the colours of the teams. Players are grouped according to their platform: PC, Xbox, or Playstation.

  • Red = PC
  • Green = Xbox X|S
  • Blue = PS5

Standard Crossplay Servers Only

One controversial feature of this event is that it will only be available on the new “standard” crossplay servers (info about servers here). So if you’re playing on a Legacy server, like Delos, or a console-only server, you won’t be able to participate.

However, the rewards are skins and transmog tokens, which should be account-bound, rather than character-specific. So we should be able to participate in the event on the Standard Crossplay world and then use the rewards on our preferred server, whether that be Legacy, Standard, or Console-only.

It sounds like the tasks are group-based, so as long as there are PC players completing the objectives, anyone with a PC character on the server should get the rewards. We hope. We’ll find out more closer to the date.

Rewards

For a new player or someone who has only dabbled in New World, these are great rewards to get your skin collection to a good start. There are a range of weapon skins, plus 2 Transmog tokens per week and the new dyes, depending on your team. It does not look like any of the rewards are tradeable.

For loyal PC players who have kept up with Twitch drops and Season Pass skins, there’s not much to be excited about. We already have a lot of red things, and the base designs are not new, just recoloured. The most exciting item is the glowing eyes, which we already have in red with the Isabella’s Gaze transmog. It does looks like these ones might be a bit more orange though. Blue or green would have been so cool, but alas, these are for console players only.

Creator Code Rewards

There’s also one more reward each week, which you can get by collecting a code from a chosen list of creators. These will be platform-specific.

I think it’s great to include community creators in these events but I just wonder whether AGS will learn from past mistakes or once again choose creators for their audience. This appears to make sense on the surface, but when the creator invariably gets bored and moves on to another game in a week or two, they take their audience with them. Hopefully, this time they choose to support creators who play New World as their primary game.
