Word on the Street – Leaderboards

In the latest update, we saw the introduction of Leaderboards, in which players can compete for the top spots to win custom titles and skins. There are a range of categories for both PVE and PVP players, as well as crafters. We took to the streets of Everfall, Windsward, and Monarch’s Bluff to find out what players think about the new leaderboards and whether they intend to compete.

Overall, most players like the idea of leaderboards but there is some concern about the ability to compete due to other game issues. For example, for those playing from South East Asia, the ping makes PVP and mutations very difficult. 3nd3effect said, “I am not interested to rank up in leaderboard and my group also don’t want … we are all playing with 230 ms ping”. However, if there were an SEA server, that would change their mind. “Yes, why not, we all love this type of PVE and PVP both”.

Another issue is the balance of PVP, with particular concern about muskets. CluBsnM told me, “actually, it is a good addition if the PVP is balanced, maybe if the bow and muskets are not OP,  ppl would love to play and grind. No-one wanna q OPR and get shot by 4000 muskets.”

Some players were unaware of leaderboards, with Badaktomeys telling me, “I don’t know where the leaderboard … I think dev give lack of awareness towards it”, while others are just not interested, “TLDR: leaderboards is bullshit, just pretend it doesn’t exist”, I was told in Prydwen Capital.

Leaderboards provide other opportunities as well, as the Governor of Miilk (Freelandits) cxspr explained, “In terms of PVP, it is easier to notice outstanding players on the leaderboards so I can poach them. I’d like to see some more open world records tho, such as kills, duels, wins etc”. When asked whether leaderboards are a good addition to the game, cxspr affirmed, “Yes 100%””.
