Is this a dagger which I see before me?
This month sees the removal of controversial daggers and some other minor updates in a long awaited patch. We are a year out from the announcement, which was celebrated by some players with an in-game memorial, and only have a few short months before the world comes to an end. This is the perfect time to be thinking about what’s next from here, and some talented fans have been building private servers for those who can’t let go of Aeternum.
Full disclosure, I have been lured by the shiny collectibles in AION 2, so am less engaged with New World than I have been in the past 5 years. We’ve scheduled Hive of Gorgons runs on Wednesday evenings to stay engaged, so if you’d like to join us pop into the discord and sign up.

October Update
This QoL patch is the first one since Katy’s Dev Wishlist thread. It was a long time in coming and took a bit longer due to technical delays at the last minute. The relative scope of the patch highlights how small the current team is but we still appreciate the effort to make the last months of the game more enjoyable for loyal players.
The patch includes:
- Faction vendor items no longer cost gold (Ultimate trophies for everyone!)
- Daggers disabled
- Purifying Switch perk disables
- Mercenary limits for wars removed
- Isle of Night rewards adjusted (reported as Chromatic Seals per boss and “depleted” umbral shards by Gravester in official discord – unconfirmed)
- Ultimate trophies stack in all 5 hours
- Significant reduction in carry and storage weight of perk charm mats
- Faster respawn for corrupted portals so people can get their 5000 portal achievement more easily.
You may notice lost presents laying around the world and some hoped this was a sign that the devs were preparing a Christmas miracle. Alas, Katy has confirmed this was just an oversight and not intended.

There are a number of groups working on private servers for New World and this month one group has come out with some strong announcements and video. You can head over to the /playnewworld subreddit to search up posts by u/datkyza to get some more information.
